GBRF 50007 Hercules Class 50 Co-Co Diesel Locomotive OO
Highly detailed model of the BR / English Electric class 50 diesel electric locomotives built for express passenger service. Several have been preserved and certified for mainline running, including 50007 Hercules which has been taken on a medium term hire by GB Railfreight.
50007 Hercules entered service in August 1968 as D407 and was named Hercules on 6 April 1978, then renamed Sir Edward Elgar on 25 February 1984 to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Great Western Railway. Retired from service on 26 March 1994, 50007 was preserved by the Class 40 Appeal at Midland Railway Butterley, then sold into private hands, before being acquired by the Class 50 Alliance in November 2016.
The Class 50 Alliance frequently partnered with GB Railfreight to operate class 50 locomotives on the national network and in January 2019 two locomtoive, 50007 and 50049 were taken on hire by GB Railfreight and painted in the familiar GBRf blue and orange livery.
