A Pioneer
Renowned as one of the pioneers of the wing car era, the Lotus Type 78 debuted in the 1977 Argentine Grand Prix to much acclaim for its sleek, aerodynamic form. The inverted gull wing shaping on the underside of its side pontoons generated significant downforce via the “ground effect,” without adding significant drag, giving the Type 78 exemplary cornering speed. In the highly capable hands of Mario Andretti and Gunnar Nilsson, it triumphed in the United States Grand Prix West, and the Spanish, French, Italian and Belgian Grand Prix. It raced into the first half of the 1978 season, and helped put the Lotus team firmly back on the map.

★The V8 3-liter engine is depicted in style, with numerous pipes and lines adding to a detailed finish.
★Take a closer look at the complex rear: engine, transmission case, exhausts and the suspension give plenty to look at. 
★The front features photo-etched oil cooler core and mesh. Choose between 1977 and 1978 design wing end plates. 
★Photo-etched end plates give the rear wing a crisp finish. Here too, you have a choice of end plate types.
★Like the full-size car, this model features rack-and-pinion steering that turns the wheels via the steering wheel.
★Seatbelts use faux cloth and photo-etched components, adding to the cockpit’s impressive realism.
★In addition to brake discs, radiator cores and wing end plates, there are also photo-etched cowl fastener parts.
★The decals include recreations of driver name and number markings, Goodyear logos and more.
